#AlaraLagos x #Vliscoandco: A Cultural Evening!

Hey guys,

How is this season treating you? I have been way too busy but here’s something from #lastfridaynight!

In one sentence, I can say that Nigerians are “woke” people. This is my first luxury event in Lagos. I have been quite a few places but a luxury event is way too different. In a luxury event, attendees are only “creme-de-la-creme, then you have a reserved spot selected media company.

Last Friday night, I had the opportunity of going to the most talked about luxury stores in Lagos-Alara Lagos. At a point, it was one of my “must-go” places in Lagos but didn’t have the pocket to go (if you know what I mean) and now, I had a free ticket to go do some content.

So, Vlisco organised an cultural event with AWCA (A White Space Creative Agency) at Alara Lagos to show a presentation by a team of Nigerian talents/creatives to give their own idea of creativity using Vlisco prints. It’s a search for what the future of fashion holds for Vlisco wax Company by Nigerian creatives. Actually, this means a lot!

The creative team- Tokyo James as a menswear fashion designer, Daniel Obasi as art direction, photography & styling, Karo Akpokiere as the illustrator, Abiola Oulusola as womenswear fashion designer and others.

The team came up with something super creative and I couldn’t be happier about the collection. I loved the details about the Tokyo James collection because it had ant and flamingo appliques on the fabrics. It showed the bold, daring man and a risk taker in terms of style!

The Alara store has interesting details and would make your mouth water at each luxury item. From the store, there were body grooming products such as skincare line-Epara, there were other luxury Italian perfumes as well.

I thought the only places I could find mules and luxury clutch bags were online stores like Asos, Zara, and the likes but Alara stores featured each of these expensive items. I loved the artistic display of cultural items like cultural/ print-inspired chairs, there were beaded crowns, bracelets, all the things you would admire in a cultural setting. The architectural structure of the building played a huge role in the comfortability and coziness of the store. It’s a space well managed and well thought out. Just like a rich home, you find staircases leading you to the direction of the items you want to purchase.

What would I do in a luxury store than to take good pictures of the items and remembering a quote one of my American friends taught me..“the best luxury is looking at things”- from Erin. I looked, gazed, stared until I felt awkward but I wished there was more than enough to pick one or two things.Someday I would!

I couldn’t go to the famous restaurant to eat because it was dark and of course one drink wouldn’t cause so much harm, would it? (Let me know if you have been there)!

Blogging 101: Taking You Through My Blogging Journey

One of my best flat lays!

Blogging as a whole (whatever you intend doing e.g fashion blogging, entertainment blogging, sports blogging, poems, reviews etc) is not as easy as the name is easy to pronounce. This post as the name implies is going to be a bit different today more like an appreciation post.

HOW I GOT INTO BLOGGING

As a freshman at the UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS, I studied Mass Communication, we were required to do a course (ONLINE JOURNALISM) which led to my opening a twitter account, I already had a Facebook account (who didn’t) and just last year November, my Instagram account- Thanks to my then ONLINEJ lecturer and Project Lecturer, DR, THERESA. I. AMOBI ( she cuddled the love of any online gig I had going on) but I wished we were taught better.

At 200l, I opened my personal blog but I was deeply into campus gist so I called it (UNILAG APROKO) but it was a pidgin blog, I kept switching names and oh boy..It gave me some kind of “rep”at the dept- I was anonymous and wanted no one to know my name (because I was the shiest girl that ever lived).

THOSE WHO INSPIRED ME.

Back in the day at the dept, some guys (UNILAG AMEBOR) had this blog that was majorly into student gist, news, campus life as a whole. I enjoyed reading their article on SUGAR BRANDS (If you don’t know this magazine as a Unilag Student, then you must have really lived in the cave- no offense). One of the guys (OPEYEMI FAMAKIN) was actually I think the most popular out of the three guys and I got to read more hilarious articles on Sugar Brands. I read his personal blog when I had the chance to and loved how thoughts flowed and how everything was so relatable! Thanks Ope If you ever get to read this.

TO BE CONTINUED…THE POST IS STARTING TO BECOME A HISTORY CLASS..WATCH OUT FOR MY NEXT POST, I’D MENTION SOME OTHER NAMES AND HOW I FINALLY FOUND MY NICHÉ img-20161213-wa0005

The Kiss, Marry and Kill of Fashion

Hi guys! Mondays are always perceived as very stressful and no fun-day at all but hope yours was not that bad. So I decided to play a lil game and have fun on here and  do a bit of “the kiss, marry and kill” in a fashion perspective but in the real world it’s a kinda game you play on people.

For example, I’d kiss Big Sean, Marry  Mark Zuckerberg and Kill….(so u get it now..). So here’s what we are going to do? Pick three things in fashion that you would love to “kiss”, “marry” and “kill”.

Well, my items are;

  1. The LBD (little black dress)
  2. lbd4

So,  I would totally kiss an LBD anytime any day provided it’s a little above the knee cap and if it’s got a collar then it’s perfect but if not, I still love it anyways…. lbd

lbd 2

2.Military Boots/ Combat Boots/ Brogues or any male inspired shoes and of course it has to be vintage!.

Aren’t these supposed to be married to? of course they are!! ain’t nothing like having a brogue or military boots cuz those heels ain’t gat nathing on it.

The beauty is, LBD goes on any and it gives  you that edgy, confident look and you can add the boss-lady to it!

3. The Halter necks: I’d totally Kill it. I don’t like halters!. They may look great but I just don’t feel comfortable on a halter anytime any dayIt kinda feels like it chokes and this probably explains why I don’t have the choker necklace. I love it but it’s a no-no for me.

So I’m just gonna put up only one pic of halter neck.

My kiss, marry and kill of fashion is an LBD, Brogues/M.Boots and Halters. So what’s yours? I’d like to hear from you and N.B it could be anything!
